A de/reconstructed opera recitative, bowed piano ensemble, and prepared guitar
Of possible interest to many students, I showed a clip of DeAngela Jones’s performance of “Without Her,” which she composed and performed with Ulrich the last time he came to TAMU. She took the recitative “Che farò senza Euridice” from Gluck’s 1762 opera Orfeo ed Euridice, left the vocal line intact, and reinterpreted the accompaniment as a graphic score for Ulrich to play as she sang. In discussing the possibilities of “cello, six hands” regarding Leon’s idea, I showed a bit about bowed piano ensembles (http://bowedpianoensemble.com) and prepared guitar (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prepared_guitar). I also mentioned tabletop guitar as a source of inspiration for playing techniques that may transfer to e-cello. Here’s a video search for examples of tabletop guitar: https://www.google.com/search?q=tabletop+guitar&tbm=vid
